Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Learning Premiere Pro consisted of watching videos and tutorials which helped me to grasp the core concepts of the platform. Once I learned the core concepts I was able to apply them which led to the creation of my video editing practice final video. Something additional that helped with learning Premiere Pro was my prior knowledge and experience using after effects to edit for social media. Since the platforms are very similar, I had an easier time translating the skills over to premiere pro.

The overall experience of creating the final clip was enjoyable and interesting. Creating the clip started off with me adding all the clips and organizing them into bins. Then once I had that, I planned out where and how to implement different clips for the final video. I utilized all the skills that I had learned from the videos and put that together to form a final video that I am proud of.

Along the way I came across some challenges but also some successes. For example, some challenges that I had came across was adding the lower thirds. In order to overcome this challenge I had to watch the tutorial multiple times and also utilize the input of my piers to best optimize the text case for my project.

On the Other hand, I also had many successes that I was comfortable with in premiere pro. For example in the color correction section, I felt that I made use of the auto feature as well as my own personal adjustments to create a uniform color throughout my clips. I also was successful in the effects, transitions, and audio transitions, using them all together to enhance my video clip.

I learned that there is some things I may need to work on and other things that I have already mastered. I specifically learned how to add the lower thirds and also how to implement other lower third presets from websites. Due to collaboration and conversations with more experienced piers I was able to figure out how to add sound transitions. Lastly thanks to the videos I learned how to add voice overs and also some shortcuts to maximize speed.

With the skills I acquired from this project, I can use them for the actual movie opening for the AICE Media Studies exam. I also know what I need to reflect on as well as what I had done well.

There are many advantages that doing this exercise on premiere pro in preparation for the portfolio project provided. It greatly familiarized me with the tools and interface of the software, creating technical awareness of the platform. In addition to teaching me new editing techniques like cutting and color grading, this practice helped me to successfully use visual storytelling strategies for an engaging movie opening.
